Additional Getting to Know ArcObjects (With CD-ROM) Information
|
|
ArcGIS is the newest and most powerful GIS technology from ESRI, and this comprehensive reference teaches Geographic Information System (GIS) technology users the concepts and methods for its customization. As ArcObjects are the building blocks of COM-based ArcGIS software, GIS professionals are given an introduction to basic object-oriented programming concepts and the classes, properties, and methods that make ArcObjects unique. Also stressed are the use of Visual Basic for Applications and the use of ArcObjects to modify the ArcGIS interface, change its basic operations, and create entirely new functionality. *NOTE* The book will not be published with a 180-day version of ArcView 8.1. It will include a CD with data needed to complete the exercises. The customer must own a licensed copy of ArcView, ArcEditor, or ArcInfo 8.3 or higher to run the exercises.

What Customers Say About Getting to Know ArcObjects (With CD-ROM):

I am very satisfied with my purchase and will definitely use Amazon.com again in the future. The shipping was very fast and reasonably priced. This book is exactly what I needed for my class. It was in excellent condition and was a great value for the price.
It was helpful and at the right level. This book was used for a GIS database course.
The most clearly written programming book I have ever read. ArcObjects are fairly complex, so having pretty straightforward programming methodology is helpful. Even though this book was written for an earlier version of ArcGIS, it does not seem to matter. The beginning of the book is very basic, but I grew to appreciate that the author took a very thorough approach.
The beginning of the book focuses on Visual Basic.errr basics, then the reader gets introduced to object-oriented concepts, before launching into using ArcObjects. So I just got done reading this book for a class in ArcObjects. As you will find out when you lay eyes on your first ArcObjects model diagram, there is a lot of ground to cover. This book is definitely a good starting point for the budding ArcObjects programmer, but by no means teaches you everything. I have to say that I was very impressed. Each chapter introduces a new concept and contains exercises that the reader can easily follow along with.
If you supplement workbook with open ended assignments students learn how to combine VB with ArcObjects. Students can do these assignments on their own. This combination has lead to student success. I have used this as as workbook in a class that introduces students to Visual Basic and ArcObjects. Book has a good combination of information with cookbook examples that covers many key points in ArcObjects.
